Ten-year-old Wyatt the Warrior is a big personality in the scleroderma community. He was diagnosed with linear scleroderma at eight years old, and has since had surgeries on his knees and regularly suffers from symptoms like migraines and GI issues.

One of Wyatt’s main loves is baseball; in fact, he loves the sport so much that even a stint in the hospital couldn’t keep him from the diamond. He was having trouble with his weekly chemotherapy shots, which forced him to be hospitalized for 24 hours to get some vital fluids inside him. Thankfully, the IV did its job and Wyatt was back playing baseball the very next day.

His love of baseball was what sparked the idea for an upcoming fundraiser. Wyatt and his friend Dan Brewer, who also has scleroderma, are hosting a fundraising event at the Lawrence-Dumont Stadium (the home of the Wichita Wingnuts) in Kansas on June 13. As part of Scleroderma Awareness Month, the boys will throw out the first pitch of the game and talk about the disease in front of the crowd.
