When interviewed, patients mentioned being worried about the body changes scleroderma inflicts and how they would cope, along with the pain and fatigue that accompanies the disease.

Social aspects were also of high concern for scleroderma patients, with many interviewees fearful of losing their jobs or becoming socially isolated. Many felt they were seen as childlike, sick or small, and felt useless which sometimes culminated into feelings of self-hatred and sadness.

Patients also expressed their concerns about their future care, how scleroderma is still a very misunderstood disease and they felt that the treatments offered to them were limited. Find out more about this study here.
